UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab praised Ethiopia’s rollout of humanitarian aid to Tigray, saying he saw “first hand” of UK’s aid contribution. Meanwhile EU ambassador Christian Danielsson discussed Ethiopian collaboration with UN partners.
According to ENA, Mr Danielsson said he wants to improve engagement between EU and the Ethiopian government so that the EU will not lose an opportunity to contribute in the rehabilitation of Tigray. Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen also revealed that 85 percent of all humanitarian aid corridors in Tigray Region are open. He said the Ethiopian government wants to guarantee the safety of aid workers, before gaining access for the remaining 15 percent.
However, the residue of the conflict causing minor insecurity issues by TPLF will be resolved to protect aid workers and routes.
Mekonnen said Western officials have privately praised his government’s efforts under the circumstances and in response to an insurrectionist TPLF’s ambush of federal forces in Tigray. He also said the interim Tigray administration officials have been alarmed by the extent of damage the TPLF caused on infrastructure on its way out, in order to hurt Tigrayan people and use their suffering as a weapon to recruit support.
